Preston's Western Wear, a Texas-sized store in Athens, is known to have customers smiling, laughing, and tapping their boots to the music while shopping. The husband-and-wife team of Pat and Debbie Preston own Preston’s and continues building on its foundation of customer service. "Having been a part of the Preston family for more than 20 years, Preston’s demonstrates excellence when it comes to customer service," Debbie explains. "We not only offer more than 10,000-square feet of merchandise, but also friendly employees that treat customers like people they’ve known for years. This merely echoes the foundation on which Preston’s was built."

Pat and his father, Doug, originally started Preston’s in May of 1985 as a farm supply store. "The Preston family has always been in business for themselves as they were farmers before establishing the store," she states.

The demand for farming supplies has decreased over the years; motivating Preston’s to change its focus to western attire. "The selection is what makes Preston’s unique—you can find things at Preston’s you won’t see in other stores," Debbie says. "Preston’s makes it a priority to offer a good selection, including boots, hats, and clothing that come in infant, children, women, and men sizes."

The extensive boot selection features boots from Justin, Red Wing, Ariat, Boulet, Dan Post, Lucchese, Tony Lama, Roper, and Rocky, others. In addition, the store offers exotic boots, such as ostrich, snake, lizard, and elephant skins. "Unlike most boot stores, the boot department is set up like a retail shoe department where staff members help customers by waiting on them," she explains. "This personalizes customers’ purchases and helps them find the right fit."

The personalized service continues with Preston’s large selection of hats. "George Strait has popularized Resistol hats and customers come in requesting George’s hat, Alan Jackson’s Silverbelly Stetson, or Toby Keith’s fashionable Scala hat, which are all at the store," Debbie comments. The hat department offers Serratelli, Bailey, Charlie-1-Horse, Shady Brady, and more. Furthermore, custom-made selections are available, as well as cleaning and shaping services.

Preston’s also carries Carhartt, Wrangler, Cinch, Cruel Girl, and Lucky clothing items and accessories to go with its clothing. Accessories such as custom jewelry and belt buckles can be ordered, as well as the Brighton, Barse, Montana Silversmiths, and Elk Creek items on display. Leather items—luggage, briefcases, portfolios, wallets, and purses—are available. Home décor items include furniture, lamps, pictures, picture frames, unusual gift items, statues, water fountains, vases, and flower arrangements.

Preston’s success can be contributed to its support from the community and it proudly gives back to many local events and charities, donates to Hospice events, and sponsors blood drives. Preston’s is a sponsor of the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo and Special Needs Rodeo, and other rodeos in Cullman, Morgan, and Lauderdale counties.
